Induction cooktop installed and connected by Russo Electrical in a Sydney kitchen
Before installation

Check the appliance and the home together

Cooktop requirements vary by model. The rating plate and manufacturer instructions determine the electrical design, while the existing switchboard and wiring determine what the home can safely support.

Exact model details

Send the model number or specification sheet so the connection method and maximum demand can be reviewed.

Switchboard capacity

We check the available supply, circuit protection and space before recommending the final scope.

Existing circuit

An old cooktop circuit is not automatically suitable. Cable size, protection, condition and installation method need checking.

Isolation

The appliance must have suitable isolation arranged for the model and installation in accordance with applicable requirements.

Benchtop and cabinetry

The opening, clearances and ventilation must match the manufacturer's installation instructions.

Gas removal

If a gas cooktop is being replaced, disconnection and capping must be completed by a licensed gasfitter.

Electrical installation scope

What Russo Electrical can complete

The final scope is based on the cooktop specifications and what is found during the assessment.

  • Switchboard and supply-capacity assessment
  • Dedicated circuit and correctly selected protection where required
  • Suitable appliance isolation
  • Disconnection and making safe of redundant electrical wiring
  • Cooktop electrical connection after physical fitting
  • Testing and required electrical compliance documentation
Board work

If the switchboard needs work

We will explain it before the cooktop is connected. Depending on the installation, the next step may involve a switchboard upgrade or investigation through our switchboard support service.

The cabinetmaker or benchtop installer normally handles the cutout and physical fit. We can coordinate timing with them.

FAQs

Induction installation FAQs

Can the new cooktop use my existing circuit?

Possibly, but it must be checked against the new appliance requirements. Cable size, protection, isolation, condition and installation method all matter.

Does an induction cooktop need three-phase power?

Not every model does. The answer depends on the appliance specifications, permitted configuration and the home's supply. Send us the exact model before purchase where possible.

Who cuts and fits the benchtop?

The kitchen installer, cabinetmaker or benchtop contractor normally completes the cutout and physical fitting. Russo Electrical handles the fixed electrical work and cooktop connection.

Can you disconnect the old gas cooktop?

Gas disconnection and capping must be completed by a licensed gasfitter. We can coordinate the electrical work around that part of the job.

Is the electrical work covered by a warranty?

Eligible Russo Electrical work is covered under our workmanship warranty. Check the warranty page for the current terms.
