LED Lighting

LED or light-emitting diode is a lighting technology that is highly energy-efficient, durable and safe. LED lights use approximately 85% less energy than halogen or incandescent lighting and use around 30% less energy than CFL lights. Depending on the globe, LED lights have a life expectancy of between 20,000 to 50,000 hours, providing you with lighting that can last longer than 11 years.

LED lights are a safer option for your home and family as this lighting technology contains no mercury or lead, and don’t emit UV rays or infrared radiation. In addition, LED lights run at a cooler temperature than incandescent bulbs and considerably cooler than CFLs.

You can also reduce your carbon footprint by making the switch to LED. LED lighting can cut greenhouse emissions and reduce landfill.

Downlights

Are you considering upgrading your home lighting by installing downlights? Downlights are a popular light fixture that can bring a clean and modern look to your home by providing unobtrusive illumination. In addition, downlights are a versatile illumination solution that allows you to create a specific atmosphere, mood or a welcoming ambience.

When installing downlights, you can choose between recessed or surface mounted downlights to light up your home. Recessed downlights enable greater control and flexibility over your space. Fitted into your ceiling, this type of downlight directs glare free light in a fixed direction depending on the angulation of the beam in the globe. Recessed lighting is ideal for focusing illumination to highlight the features of your home or to accentuate your most prized possessions. Surface mounted downlights are fixed on the surface of your ceiling. This type of downlighting is the perfect choice when you can’t drill holes in your ceiling. Additionally, downlights that are surface mounted provide flexibility and can improve the architectural feel of home.

The choice between LED and halogen downlights is another factor to consider when installing downlights. We recommend LED downlights as a better lighting solution. LED downlights consume less energy, produce more light and less heat, have a superior lifespan (40,000 hours), are inexpensive to run and are seal fitted, meaning no dust or bugs. On the other hand, halogen downlighting have a really high energy consumption, less light and a lot more heat, a very low lifespan (2,000 hours), are expensive to run and aren’t seal fitted, producing ceiling gaps.

We install downlights in homes throughout Sydney. Areas include the Eastern Suburbs, Lower North Shore, Northern Suburbs and the Inner West. Contact us today to find out more about installing downlights in your home.

House Rewiring

Although you may not see any obvious issues with your lighting or the electricity in your home, if you live in an older house it just might be the time to consider having a qualified electrical contractor take a look at its wiring. Typical signs that your home may need to be rewired include the regular tripping of circuit breakers; minor shocks when you touch switch plates; electricity outlets that feel warm to touch; lights that flicker and dim unexpectedly; switch plates that are discoloured, and sparking, strange noises and burning odours. If you live in an older home and have noticed any of these signs, there is a good chance that your wiring has become damaged and needs to be upgraded. Damaged or old wiring can lead to overloaded electrical circuits, costly fire and the potential loss of life. Research suggests that 20% of residential fires in Australia are caused from inadequate wiring.

In addition to damaged wiring, homes constructed 20 or 30 years ago are not wired for and cannot cope with the demand of today’s electricity needs. The increase in modern technology and the number of home appliances, larger televisions, computers, air conditioners and multiple electrical devices are all a factor in increasing demand and potential electrical hazards.

For peace and mind, contact us today to find out if your home needs rewiring.

Electrical Switchboard Upgrades

Your home electrical switchboard can be considered as the ‘control panel’ of your home’s electrical wiring. If you live in an older home, or if a licensed electrician hasn’t checked your switchboard recently, it may be in need of an upgrade.

The potential for short-circuits, limited power supply and the importance of a safety switch are all aspects that need to be considered. Firstly, older switchboards have a greater chance of short-circuiting. This can increase the risk of electric shocks and fuses catching fire. Secondly, ageing switchboards can’t handle the amount of electricity that households require in modern life. This lack of power can lead to electrical issues in your home. Lastly, a modern switchboard will enable the implementation of a safety switch. Safety switches allow power to be cut down or restored when needed.

At Russo Electrical, we can professionally assess your current electrical switchboard and provide you with advice on the best options available for a switchboard upgrade. To safeguard your home and family, contact us today to organise an appointment.
